The Northwest retains its position as lead the UK manufacturing region, just ahead of the South East. According to the latest figures, the importance of manufacturing to the Northwest has steadily declined in recent years. However, in relative terms it remains more important to the regional economy than is the case nationally.
The population of North West England is approximately 7 million. It is the third most populous region behind the South East and London. It accounts for over 11 per cent of employment and over 10 per cent of UK GDP.
Traditionally the North West was mainly known for its heavy industry and textiles. However in recent years it has diversified and built on its existing strengths to develop and benefit from modern, hi-tech sectors including ICT, biotechnology, chemicals, aerospace and telecommunications.
The North West has a strong base of both national and international companies, offering a wide range of employment opportunities. All of these jobs are regularly advertised by the regions respected recruitment agencies such as Daniel Adams, and in order to match the right people to the right position, they will help with candidate selection and interview procedures.
