Jobs in the North West

With a population of nearly seven million, and a geographical area encompassing some of the UKs most vibrant cities, the North West region is second only to London and the South East in terms of economic output. Historically the region has long been associated with industries such as shipbuilding and textiles, but over the past few years more diversification has taken place and with the decline in heavy industry there has been a noticeable movement towards office-based employment.

The main employment opportunities in the region are found in the service industry, where flexible working is the norm. Therefore employment agencies are a useful tool as more and more links are forged between the large employers of the region and the people looking for employment.

The North West is one of the countrys fastest developing sub-regions. A recent report stated that Manchester is the second best city to locate a business to in the UK. The area has one of the UKs highest rates of job creation with Foreign Direct Investment in industry above the national average. A large proportion of the regions big employers are foreign owned companies, predominantly American and European.

The region now boasts many large scale regeneration projects, many undertaken by local government initiatives. Greater Manchester and Lancashire have business parks and centres of learning in the construction phase, providing plentiful job opportunities. In future there will be many more employment prospects, especially as high technology businesses become more prevalent.
